PSC at Ngurah Rai Airport Increases

Since April 1, 2014, the operator of the I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, PT Angkasa Pura (Persero), set a fare adjustment to passenger service charge (PSC). The increase in the rate often called as the airport tax applied to passengers of international flight that originally was IDR 150,000 to IDR 200,000, while the rate of domestic passengers from IDR 40,000 to IDR 75,000.

Co-General Manager of the Ngurah Rai International Airport, I Gusti Ngurah Ardita, said the tariff adjustment was in line with the improvement of services and facilities at the local airport. For instance, there were construction of the new international terminal with an area of 120,000 m2 and renovation of the old international terminal into domestic terminal with an area of 65,800 m2.

“This adjustment poses the compensation for the increase in the services we provide for the airport users. Surely we will not burden the people because when compared to other countries such as Thailand and Australia, we are much lower,” he said.

According to him, the increase in the PSC rate also applied to four other airports, apart from the Ngurah Rai. Among them, they included the Juanda International Airport (Surabaya), Sepinggan International Airport (Balikpapan), Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport (Makassar) and Lombok Praya International Airport.

“Considering the domestic terminal is currently still in the process of renovation, thereby the adjustment of new domestic fares will come into effect August 1,” he said. As had been known, in addition to having a larger capacity, namely around 25 million passengers per year, the construction of new international terminal was also equipped with various facilities and the latest systems such as building with a parking capacity of 1,600 vehicles and Hold Baggage Screening system where the handling of passenger baggage would be more effective, efficient and with a very high level of security. The total investment for the construction of the international airport terminal and the development of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport approximately reached IDR 3 trillion.

I Gusti Ngurah Ardita said that the tariff adjustment had been coordinated in advance and communicated with various parties. “Previously we have delivered this PSC tariff adjustment plan to the Ministry of Transportation in October 2013,” he said.

In addition to proposing to the Ministry, his party also made coordination and dissemination to stakeholders such as the airlines, immigration authority, quarantine office, customs and excise, INACA and business partners as well as to users of the airport services which in this case was represented by the Indonesian Consumers Foundation (YLKI).

“The YLKI as representatives of consumers understands the steps of Angkasa Pura I to adjust the PSC tariff defined as compensation of enhancing services at the airport,” he said. (BTN/015)
