International Aviation: The Need For Air Cargo Is Increasing

Indonesia is predicted to have a shortage of air cargo space on international routes ahead of the peak export-import season which usually occurs later this year.
Chairman of the Indonesia Cargo Agents Club (ICAC) Ade Wellington Adrian said the shortage of air cargo space was triggered by the number of airlines that stopped international flight services during the Covid-19 pandemic.
"Moreover, October is entering the peak season for export-import cargoes, so that what was before normal returns to a moderate shortage of space," he told Bisnis, Wednesday (7/10).
Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, he emphasized that exporters and importers who use air transport services take advantage of regular passenger flights. With the cessation of operations for many regular international flights, he added, export-import cargo activities only rely on special cargo aircraft (freighters).
Ade, who is also the Managing Director of PT Transtama Logistics, said that the performance of exports and imports using aircraft is still running because the demand for air freight is focused on important, high-value and goods perishable. However, the decline in international flights had an impact on the drop in air cargo space.
