How Far Are World Leading Ports Suffering from Covid-19?
In the first two months (January-February) 2020 reports from some world leading ports said a significant drop of throughput. All ports in China experienced a drop. The two leading ports in USA Loss Angeles and Long Beach experienced a doble digit drop in the two months. In Europe, some leading ports also faced similar.
Indonesia’s leading port in both international and inter-island trade Tanjung Priok suffered a 5.13% throughput drop in first two months (January-February) 2020.
Two leading ports in USA, the Port of Los Angeles (LA) and Port of Long Beach also suffered 13% drop year on year, while the second biggest port in USA, Port of Long Beach suffered a 17.9% drop in February.
China ports total throughput in January February reached 34.48 million TEUs, down 10.6% from the same period in 2019. China’s top-10 ports all experienced a drop during the period.
In Asia, meanwhile, almost all ports also faced a drop, except the Singapore. The Singapore recorded a 6.08 million TEUs, a 5.9% increase year on year, making it stay on the top in the world’s busiest port in 2020, overtake Shanghai.
